Google is measuring AI visibility better: a little less fog in Search Console

Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode reports are now available worldwide in Search Console. They help track visibility, but they aren't a magic ‘AI ranking meter’.

What did Google announce?

On 3 June 2026, Google announced new Search Generative AI performance reports in Search Console. They provide a separate view of visibility in generative features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode, as well as generative experiences in Discover.

Update, 31 August 2026: Google says these reports are now available to all websites worldwide. A property still needs relevant impressions in these AI features before there is data to analyse.

Why does this matter to businesses?

Until now, AI visibility was largely mixed into regular Search Console performance data. Dedicated reporting can make it easier to see whether content is appearing in these newer search experiences.

It can help answer questions such as:

  • is our website appearing in generative search experiences?
  • which pages are gaining visibility there?
  • does that visibility change after content or technical improvements?

Our critical take

Useful data does not mean everything suddenly needs to be called “AI SEO”. A report is not a strategy, and an impression is not yet a customer.

Put another way: a new chart does not make weak content intelligent.

The fundamentals still matter: clear original content, sound technical foundations, accurate local information and pages that genuinely answer visitor needs.

What does Jolly Worx do with this?

For clients with relevant data, these reports provide an extra SEO measurement point. We read them alongside regular organic performance, not instead of it.

AI visibility is becoming more measurable. Good. We still prefer optimising for real people rather than for a fashionable dashboard box.
